Preclick PhotoBackPack Tutorial #5: Making SmartPhotos™ – Batch Stamping

So you have hundreds or even thousands of photos on your computer hard drive but do not have the organization in place to find the specific photo you were thinking of. Preclick’s SmartPhoto™ technology will enable you to add keywords, captions and other information to your photos. Not only can you assign this information to photos individually but you can now also assign information to a group of photos! (Click here to jump to Stamp Photos feature)

Already know about the SmartPhoto™ Tags in Preclick PhotoBackPack? Click here to jump to learn how to stamp multiple photos with the same Tags using the Stamp Photos feature in PhotoBackPack.

The SmartPhoto Tags:
To the right of the photo in the View tab is a digital photo back. The SmartPhoto Tags section enables you to assign keywords, captions and other identifiers to your photos.

  • You can rate your photo by clicking on the appropriate star.
  • You can rename your photo by simply changing typing a new name in the Name field. This name will be reflected when viewing your photos using Windows Explorer or another photo application.
  • The Caption describes what is going on in the photo.
  • The People field is where you can enter the persons or things that appear in the photo.
  • The Event is what event this photo is taken at.
  • The Place is the location where the photo was taken.
  • The Date is when the photo was taken.
  • The Album file designates what album(s) this photo resides in. Album entries are automatically generated when you create or modify an album.
To add info, just click in a field and start typing. Preclick will try to complete what you type. You can add multiple values by separating them with commas. You can also click the stamp button to the left of the field and choose from the list of values you have already entered. If your camera records the date with your photo, this date will be used for the Date field. Otherwise the file date will be used. You can edit the date if it is wrong by clicking it. You can click the Date stamp button to choose which date will be used. The SmartPhoto Tags section will also show you the size and dimensions of a particular photo and the name of the folder it resides in. Note: You can hover your mouse over the folder name to view the entire folder path.

Embedding
All the information that you enter on the Tags section (caption, people, event, place, and date) is embedded in the photo (except for the album field). This means that you can move your photos, share them with friends and family, and never have to reenter the Tags. Note: For BMP files, the Tags are kept in a separate file (designated with a file format of .bmp.xmp) located in the same directory as the image.

What’s does embedding mean? Embedding means the information is stored inside the photo file and not visible unless you view the photo file’s properties with a program that support the XMP embedding standard including Preclick Gold/Silver Organizer, Adobe Photoshop and Pixvue to name a few.

Stamp Multiple Photos
The Stamp Photos feature enables you to add Tags to multiple photos at once. You will first want to add all photos you wish to stamp to the Organize tab. You can do so by clicking the Organize icon under the thumbnail in the filmstrip or under the bottom right corner of the photo in the View SmartPhoto tab.

Once you have selected all the photos you wish to stamp, go to the Organize tab. Click the Stamp Photos button to prompt the Stamp Photos screen.

Enter information into the People, Event or Place fields to add that information to all photos on the tab. Entering an Album name will add all photos to that album. If you enter a name of an existing album, the photos will be added to that album.

Once you have entered all the desired information, click Start Stamping.

Note: All photos on the Organize tab will be stamped with the information entered into the Stamp Photos screen.
